As the news of our recent re-direction has gone out I’ve had a few people ask me about Opportunity International (OI). My assumption is that others might be asking the same question so I’ll go ahead & address it. The question goes something like this: “Are there problems with Opportunity as an organization – is that why you’ve decided not to move to Africa?”
Let me say emphatically that I believe the work that Opportunity International is doing in some 28 developing countries around the world is absolutely fantastic. I am still a HUGE fan of OI & believe the concept of micro-finance as a means to help empower people is a right methodology. There is no doubt in my mind that lives are being transformed as a result of the work being done by the men and women serving within Opportunity – both on their fund-raising side & on their implementation side.
