I have a confession to make. I’m not a big camper. It’s not that I don’t WANT to be a camper…it’s just a reality that I’m NOT a camper. However, I’ve been telling Missy that I want to become a camper – not just for me, mind you…but for the kiddos. It just seems so much fun for a kid to get out into nature and fish and hike and smell like a campfire.
I noticed a couple weeks back that young Daniel had off school on Monday, September 21st….I have no idea what for, but that’s beside the point. I decided that this was a great opportunity to take he and Caroline off for an overnighter. I started going down the list of things you need to go camping.
- Tent? Check.
- Sleeping bags for the kids? Check.
- Cooler for food & drinks? Check.
Ughh….well, that’s all I had. So I sent a quick email to my good friend Beau and he was more than happy to lend us his camping gear (which, by the way – amounted to Bass Pro Shop volume of stuff).
And so the three of us pulled out of Dallas…headed about an hour north on I-35 and camped out at Lake Ray Roberts. We had a blast! We fished, road bikes, cooked out over the fire, ate smores, fished some more, swam in the lake, played in the sand and just enjoyed being together…outside in God’s creation. Such a great time with my two older kiddos.
Here are some pictures of our 24 hour excursion.
By the way – about the first picture- on our way up to Lake Ray Roberts we passed by the apartment complex in Denton where Missy & I lived in our first year of marriage – way back in 1998. So I pulled off to show the kids where mommy & daddy first lived when we got married. They got a kick out of it.

LOVE THIS… so glad you all had a good time. I was a little thrown off by the… have off October 21st and then there are pictures
Love those pictures! Looks and sounds like you all had a blast.
